-Tips for a high quality and cost effective cutting list

Sheet economy and maximum part size

Sheet material is usually 2440mm long by 1220mm wide. Some materials are available in larger sheet sizes and where appropriate we'll use our state of the art optimising software to choose sizes to give you best economy.

To give high quality finished sizes, we don't rely on 'factory edges'. The first part of the cutting process involves a trim cut of 10mm all around the stock sheet. With some chipboard cores we may want to trim more to achieve the high quality standard we work to. Our saw is equipped with a blade that is 5mm thick (the saw kerf). What this all means is that to cut two parts across the width of a 1220mm wide stock sheet, factoring in the trims the resulting width of each part will be 595mm.

We'll assume all the measurements you tell us are 'clean cuts' which our Scheer Production Beam Saw will cut to within 0.1mm accuracy. For a set of given parts if you just want the board divided into two please specify that in the comments box. Otherwise specifying something like 610mm could result in us using two sheets to give you exactly what you asked for!

A useful rule of thumb is that when you want a measurement around 600mm wide, could it be 595mm instead?

Edge banding details

We offer a range of high quality edge banding options. If you are using MDF with the intention of a paint finish, consider specifying 'Preparation Tape' edgebanding. Normally the edges of MDF are rougher than the face which can lead to different textures showing through the paint finish. Using a Preparation Tape edge treatment gives the same texture all round leading to a uniform high quality paint finish.

Different edgeband treatments: Rounded edge 2mm thick preparation tape, flat edge 0.4mm thick preparation tape, matching plastic veneer edging 2mm thick with round edge

Edgeband profiles

With edgebanding greater than 2mm thick you can have the choice of a square or radius edge. You can specify this in your cutting list by choosing edgebands with an 'R' designation for radius or 'SQ' for square edge.

Offcuts

We can include offcuts with your order - just click the offcuts box. We consider an offcut too small to include as anything less than 300mm by 300mm or a strip greater than 1000mm but less than 50mm wide. If you have any special instructions around offcuts please include them in your comments.

Special Offers

We offer sheet material from the leading manufacturers including Egger and Kronospan. Sometimes our suppliers offer promotional pricing which we like to pass onto our customers. Make sure your profile information - including email address and your interest areas - is up to date and we'll let you know about relevant special pricing availabilty.

Delivery

We offer a comprehensive delivery service using our own vans. Ensure you select the option 'quote for delivery' on your cutting list.
